Consumer Rights
Your statutory floor when buying goods and services.
Goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If they are not, you have a short-term right to reject within 30 days, then a right to repair or replacement, then a price reduction or final right to reject.
Services must be performed with reasonable care and skill, within a reasonable time, for a reasonable price where none was agreed.
Distance and online purchases usually come with a 14-day cancellation right that does not require a reason.
Key points
- 30 days: short-term right to reject.
- Your contract is with the retailer, not the manufacturer.
- Section 75 covers card credit purchases over £100.
- Chargeback is a separate, faster route worth trying.
You’re safe. You’re capable. You’re legally unstoppable.
