Powers, notice periods, fees and doorstep theatre.
Enforcement agents must give notice before visiting, must visit within permitted hours, and charge fees fixed by regulation. Most cannot force entry to a home on a first visit for ordinary civil debts.
'Peaceable entry' means through an open door or window — which is why the advice is always to keep them shut.
Vulnerability matters. If someone in the household is elderly, disabled, seriously ill, pregnant or a child, say so in writing straight away.
