Department module

Police Department

Stop & account, stop & search, rights, scripts, what police can do, what they can’t, and how to stay calm even when your heart is doing parkour.

Before You Begin

“You’re allowed to breathe. Police cannot arrest your oxygen.”

“You’re not in trouble — you’re in a conversation with uniforms.”

“This module is your calm button. No panic. No fear. Just clarity.”

Why Police Interactions Feel Scary

Imagine walking home. Police stop you. Your brain immediately thinks: “I’m going to jail for existing.”

Reality: Most police interactions are routine. They need information, not drama. You have rights, not punishments.

This module explains police powers in real life, not in the dramatic “TV show version” that makes everyone panic.

Types of Police Interactions

1. Stop & Account

Police can ask who you are and what you're doing. You do not have to answer.

2. Stop & Search

Police must explain the legal power, the reason, what they’re looking for, and your rights.

3. Voluntary Interview

You can say no. You can leave. You can ask for legal advice.

4. Arrest

Police must explain the reason, the legal power, your rights, and your entitlement to a solicitor.

What Police Can Do

  • Stop & account
  • Stop & search (with legal power)
  • Ask questions
  • Arrest with reasonable suspicion
  • Seize items under certain powers

What Police Cannot Do

  • Force you to answer stop & account questions
  • Search you without legal power
  • Enter your home without a warrant or emergency reason
  • Take your phone without legal grounds
  • Stop you filming them

Deep Thinking

  • Why do police interactions feel intimidating?
  • Why do uniforms trigger panic?
  • Why do people assume they’re in trouble even when they’re not?

Police have authority, but you have rights. This module balances both — calmly and clearly.

Funny Grounding

“You’re not being arrested — you’re being asked questions by someone wearing a hat.”

“Your heartbeat is dramatic. The situation is not.”

“You are legally moisturised and emotionally protected.”
